According to MOEA's (Ministry of Economic Affairs) report on March 4, Taiwan's Industrial Production Index reached 109.49, up 8.14% year on year. Among the manufacturing sector, electronics, basic metal, computers and optical products, machinery, and automobile all registered positive annual growth in output in January. MOEA said that the good performance was because many vendors shipped more products to customers in January ahead of the Lunar Chinese New Year holidays in February. Particularly, thanks to the boom in smart mobile devices, index of the semiconductor sector rose to 163.58 and that of the electronic components sector climbed to 128.97.
